Prayer on Letting Go of the Past

Father, I realize my helplessness in saving myself, and I glory in what Christ Jesus has done for me. I let go and put aside all my past sources, counting them worthless than nothing, in order that I may experience Christ and become one with Him.

Father, I have received You Son Jesus Christ as my personal savior, and He has given me the authority (power, privilege, and right) to become Your child.

I unfold my past and put into proper perspective those things that are behind. I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. I trust in You, Lord, with all of my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all of my ways I acknowledge You, and You will make my paths straight.

I want to know Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection and to fellowship with Him. So, whatever it takes, I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life that Jesus died to give me.

I don’t mean to say that I am perfect. I haven’t learned all I should, but I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Jesus Christ saved me for and wants me to be.

I am brining all my energies to bear on this one thing. Regardless of my past, I look forward to what lies ahead. I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which You called me.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Scripture References

Philippians 3:7-9

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

John 1:12

But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.

Psalm 32:5

I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord [continually unfolding the past till all is told]--then You [instantly] forgave me the guilt and iniquity of my sin. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

Philippians 3:12-14

Pressing toward the Goal

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Galatians 2:20

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
